Break, sickness and Sci-Fi

I was sick for last few days. I was resting to gather more strength and be able to come back to constant learning. During this time I spent a lot of time on reading books.

sci-fi

I feel like science fiction books give me a new view on different things. They often touch not only technology perspective, like new types of travel, engines or super powerful devices.

Those books show the world from different perspective. Sometimes the impact of one thing, can totally change everything. Last week, new AI companion was announced. It will be by default in our pockets. I talk about Apple Intelligence. Artificial intelligence made to read our messages, look through the photos and track all of our activities. The companion to make sure, we don’t forget to put a meeting in a calendar. We don’t miss birthday and the best gift as it will remind us about conversation from few months ago about cool thing that someone wrote to use.

Everybody should know Jarvis. It’s from Iron Man movie, where Tony Stark was talking with his own AI companion. Now, we might all get one of them.

Hydroponics

I was watching and reading a lot about hydroponics. Did you know the plants grow 30-60% faster?

As engineer, I find it fascinating. We can use technology to provide perfect environment for plants to grow them much faster. We use smaller parts of land, as such farms are vertical. You can have a shelf with 5 levels and on each you can grow multiple plants. Every square meter becomes five time more efficient in terms of space usage.

Hydroponics and vertical farms need more technology, than using traditional farming. We need to maintain water flow and level, nutrition amount, lighting and probably many more factors. We get plants from perfect environment in its fragile, pure form. They were not impacted by wind, storm or other unpleasant surprises from Earth. They are not so strong and solid, but pure and delicate.

You can grow lettuce two times faster, deliver not contaminated plants and with time become self-sufficient. I can already imagine farms using solar or wind power, purifying ground or rain water.

Future is here

Artificial intelligence is in our pockets. Hydroponic farms might solve issues with food in towns. Maybe even I make one as I have all knowledge necessary to set up such thing. I need to prepare few experiments with hydroponics to learn and see effects of this technology.
